What Personal Data We Collect and Why We Collect It

1. Comments

When visitors leave comments on our site, we collect the information provided in the comment form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent to help detect spam.

An anonymized string (hash) created from your email address may be sent to the Gravatar service to check if you use it. You can review Gravatar’s privacy policy here: https://automattic.com/privacy/.
Once your comment is approved, your profile picture becomes visible to the public alongside your comment.

2. Media

If you upload images to the website, please avoid including images that contain embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Other visitors can download and extract location data from such images on the website.

3. Cookies and Contact Forms

If you leave a comment, you may choose to save your name, email address, and website in cookies for convenience—so you don’t have to re-enter them next time. These cookies remain active for one year.

If you have an account and log in to our site, a temporary cookie will determine if your browser accepts cookies. This temporary cookie contains no personal data and is deleted when you close your browser.

When you log in, we also create cookies to save your login information and display preferences.

  • Login cookies last for 2 days.
  • Screen options cookies last for 1 year.

If you edit or publish an article, an extra cookie is saved in your browser. It contains the post ID of the edited article and expires after 1 day.

Comments and their metadata are kept indefinitely to allow automatic approval of follow-up comments without moderation.

If you have an account on our site or have left comments, you can request an exported file containing your personal data, including any information you’ve provided to us.
You may also request that we delete your personal data. However, this does not include data we are required to retain for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

7. Where We Send Your Data

Visitor comments may be analyzed through an automated spam detection service.
